FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: method of monitoring protective efficiency of a high-efficiency particulate air filter of a biological safety cabinet based on use of a test aerosol. During working ventilation of the cabinet, test aerosol of diethylhexyl sebacate is fed into an air intake cavity lower than the level of the top of the cabinet. Further, during working ventilation of the cabinet and the working aerosol generator, concentration of the test aerosol is determined with diameter of aerosol particles equal to 0.3-0.5 mcm in air in front of filters in the excess pressure cavity through an impulse pipe for controlling excess pressure, in the air away from the cavity of the cabinet after the filter and in air of the working area of the cabinet over top after the filter. Further, the value of the actual protective efficiency of the filter away from the cavity of the cabinet and the value of the actual protective efficiency of the filter of the working area of the cabinet are calculated using the formula: E=100-N2:N1×100, where: E is the actual protective efficiency of the air filter away from the cavity of the cabinet, or air in the working area of the cabinet, expressed as a percentage N1 is concentration of the test aerosol in 1 m3 of air in the excess pressure cavity in front of the filters N2 is concentration of the test aerosol in 1 m3 of air after the filters in air away from the cavity of the cabinet or in air of the working area of the cabinet over the top and the obtained values are used to determine the presence or lack of protective efficiency of high-efficiency particulate air filters of the biological safety cabinet with concentration of the test aerosol in the excess pressure cavity in front of the filters not less than 3.5×107 aerosol particles per 1 m3 of air, and for values of actual protective efficiency of a high-efficiency particulate air filter of the biological safety cabinet, calculated for air away from the cavity of the cabinet and for air of
