The present invention provides an improved method for preparing microparticles containing glatiramer acetate with low levels of residual organic solvent, especially dichloromethane. The microparticles are incorporated into long-acting parenteral pharmaceutical compositions in the form of a depot suitable for subcutaneous or intramuscular implantation or injection, and which can be used to treat multiple sclerosis.
