Olanzapine an anti psychotic drug used for schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder. It is insoluble in aqueous solution"s and the bioavailability after the oral administration is low (57%) due to extensive first pass metabolism, and also poorly cross the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) which leads to insufficient concentration of drug in the brain. Lipid-based nanoparticles containing Olanzapine to target the brain for improved bioavailability is taught. The preparation of Lipid-based nanoparticles are prepared using solvent diffusion technique and characterized and the same is taught. The method of preparation and the composition consisting of Lipid-based nanoparticles containing Olanzapine with the improved bioavailability, Area under the curve (AUC) and concentration (Cmax) etc, as compared with that of the pure drug suspension in the brain to a better therapeutic efficacy in central nervous system (CNS) disorders is described.
