PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique in which a user can simply set a three-dimensional area of interest.SOLUTION: A subject information acquisition device includes: a light source an irradiation unit multiple detection elements for detecting an acoustic wave propagated from a subject and outputting an electric signal a processing unit for acquiring characteristic information in the subject by using the electric signal a support for supporting the detection elements an input unit capable of receiving an input of information concerning the area of interest becoming a target of acquiring the characteristic information and being a three-dimensional area a display control unit for making a display unit display a predetermined three-dimensional shape expressing the area of interest a scanning area setting unit for setting a scanning area on the basis of the area of interest and a scanning unit for moving a support in the scanning area.
