A feeder (10) for receiving fishing bait is described, the feeder (10) comprising a first portion or base (12), attachable to a fishing line and a second portion or shell (14), attachable to the first portion (12). An interior region for holding bait is defined at least in part by the second portion (14). The second portion (14) is at least partially water-soluble. When the feeder (10) is loaded with bait and cast into water, at least part of the shell (14) dissolves to release the bait, leaving only the base (12) to be retrieved. The second portion (14) may be provided with perforations (24) or ridges (26).
