A disposable diaper (1) is provided with: a center slit (45) which is formed in a portion of an absorption body (40), the portion being located in a crotch region, so that the absorption body (40) can bend so as to project inward toward the wearer and side slits (46L, 46R) formed in the absorption body (40) in the lengthwise direction so that the absorption body (40) can bend so as to project outward. The disposable diaper (1) is also provided with a transverse elastic material (7A) which, in an intermediate crotch region, transverses the absorption body (40) and is affixed to the absorption body (40). The absorption body (40) is contracted by the transverse elastic material (7A) toward the center of the absorption body in the widthwise direction.
