The device wearable by the user incorporates a breathing apparatus or breathing air filter in combination with an electronic system that provides functionality to the user who is wearing it. Functionality may include, for example, physiological data sensing, environmental data sensing, user input, user output, and communication network connectivity. The electronic system may be configured to communicate with an application running on a user host device, such as a mobile phone, tablet or personal computer, to transfer information gathered by the user-mountable device. Applications running on the user host device may be used to configure a user-mountable device. Multiple user user host devices may be configured to report the collected data to a data management system that can aggregate and store data and analyze aggregated data.
