PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an instrument for minimally invasive surgery of retraction of tissue inside a patient.
SOLUTION: Retractors (20 and 320) include working channels (50 and 350) formed by first portions (22 and 322) and second portions (24 and 324). The first and second portions (22, 322, 24 and 324) are movable relative to one another from a first configuration for insertion that minimizes trauma to skin and tissue to an enlarged configuration after insertion to further retract the skin and the tissue in a minimally invasive manner. Instruments (70, 90, 140, 220 and 360) are engageable to the first and second portions (22, 322, 24 and 324) and operable to move the first and second portions (22, 322, 24 and 324) relative to one another.
