The present invention relates to a gastric-retentive sustained release formulation of metformin which is a medicine for treating non-insulin dependent diabetes, and to a manufacturing method thereof. More particularly, the gastric-retentive sustained release formulation of the present invention forms sustained release granules and can effectively control release of a drug while using a small amount of a polymer. The sustained release granules comprises: granules including metformin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a swelling polymer and a water-insoluble polymer film coated on the surfaces of the granules.
