The invention relates to a consortium of bacteria that promote growth in plants, comprising Pseudomonas stutzeri, Pseudomonas denitrificans, Pseudomonas resinovorans, Pseudomonas brassicacearum, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Shimwellia blattae and Klebsiella oxytoca. The bacterial consortium, together with in agriculturally acceptable vehicle, forms a bio-fertiliser that can be applied to plants in a crop in order to improve crop yields. The bio-fertiliser of the invention has a long shelf-life and retains a high density over time.
