The present invention provides methods and compositions for promoting the recovery of function from nerve injury, such as ischemic injury caused by acute stroke. In some embodiments, the present invention includes methods and compositions comprising a p38-αMAPK inhibitor for promoting functional recovery from nerve injury. In some embodiments, the present invention includes methods and compositions comprising a p38-αMAPK inhibitor for promoting neurological recovery from ischemic injury.
