Corticosteroid microparticle formulations are provided for use for treatingpain, including pain caused byinflammatory diseases such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, and forslowing, arresting orreversing structural damage to tissues caused by an inflammatory disease, forexample damage toarticular and/or peri-articular tissues caused by osteoarthritis or rheumatoidarthritis. Corticosteroidmicroparticle formulations are administered locally as a sustained releasedosage form (with or without animmediate release component) that results in efficacy accompanied byclinically insignificant or nomeasurable effect on endogenous Cortisol production.
