Embodiments of the invention relates to decreasing effects of local and/or regional anesthesia by administering to a patient in need thereof an agent selected from the group of agents consisting of reactive nitrogen species (RNS), reactive oxygen species (ROS) and/or an agent which induces formation of RNS and/or ROS.
