The invention relates to a method of producing the N-substituted 2,6-dialkyl morpholines of general formula (I), wherein R<1> and R<2> independently represent hydrogen, alkyl or cycloalkyl, or R<1> and R<2>, together with the carbon atom to which they are bound, represent a 5 to 14 membered carbocyclic compound, and R<3> and R<4> independently represent alkyl or cycloalkyl. The inventive substances are produced by reacting at least one carbonyl compound of general formula (II), wherein R<1> and R<2> are defined as above, with at least one morpholine of general formula (III), wherein R<3> and R<4> are defined as above, in the presence of hydrogen and at least one metal-containing catalyst, the active component of said catalyst substantially consisting of platinum group metals.
