A composition for preventing or treating ophthalmic diseases comprising as an active ingredient, S-allyl-L-cysteine, pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof or a hydrate thereof, wherein the composition inhibits the oxidation of N-retinylidene-N-retinyl-ethanolamine (A2E) in the cells of pigmentary setchatki.3 epithelium. A composition according to claim. 2, wherein the ocular disease is age-related macular degeneration or degenerative lesions setchatki.4. A composition according to claim. 2, wherein the S-allyl-L-cysteine used in an amount of from 5 to 99.9% by weight, relative to the total weight of the total kompozitsii.5. Composition according to Claim. 1 or 2, wherein the S-allyl-L-cysteine is obtained by extraction and purification from a plant of the genus Allium or by synthesis fermentatsii.6. Composition according to Claim. 1 or 2, further comprising an anti-inflammatory agent or antioksidant.7. A composition according to item 6, wherein the anti-inflammatory agent is selected from the group consisting of ibuprofen, ketoprofen, flurbiprofen, fenoprofen, naproxen, piroxicam, tenoxicam, izoksikama, meloxicam, indomethacin, aceclofenac and diclofenac and combinations thereof and the antioxidant is selected from the group consisting of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, carotenoid, zinc, copper, iron, manganese, lutein, zeaxanthin, selenium, glutathione (GSH) and lycopene and their kombinatsii.8.
