The invention relates to an adapter for modifying a mobile communication device such as, but not limited to,a smartphone,tablet computers or webcam to create an ophthalmoscope or fundus camera for ophthalmoscopy or fundus imaging comprising an illumination device,including component parts thereof and a method of testing eye function and producing images using said camera and associated illumination device.
