A surgical instrument comprises a surgical end effector for effecting a surgical procedure when actuated, a handle mechanically coupled with the end effector, an electric motor disposed within a shell of the handle, and a power supply. A selective switching connection is disposed within the shell of the handle and comprises a switch with three positions, wherein in a forward position the motor is powered in a forward direction, in a reverse position the motor is powered in a reverse direction, and in an off position the motor is separated from the power supply.
