A surgical instrument includes a housing and an elongated shaft operablycoupled to anactuating mechanism moveable between an actuated position and an unactuatedposition. Anend effector includes a pair of opposing first and second jaw members and isadapted to connectto a source of electrosurgical energy. A switch is moveable between anactivated position toinitiate delivery of electrosurgical energy to the end effector and adeactivated position toterminate delivery of electrosurgical energy to the end effector. A switchactivation member isconfigured to move the switch between an activated position and a deactivatedposition. Aswitch control member is configured to maintain the switch in the activatedposition during atleast partial movement of the actuating mechanism from the actuated positionto the unactuatedposition.
