A transseptal system for accessing the left atrium from the right atrium is disclosed. The transseptal system includes a transseptal catheter, a transseptal guidewire, and an RF energy generator. The guidewire may be configured to puncture the interatrial septum, and includes an active electrode configured to ablate and widen the initial puncture hole. The guidewire tip assumes a preformed curvature in the unconstrained condition that prevents inadvertent injury to the surrounding tissues as it enters the left atrium. The system may include an imaging probe, and in particular a forward-looking IVUS imaging probe, to provide real time imaging that enables accurate positioning of the catheter and guidewire throughout the transseptal procedure.Linvention concerne un système transseptal pour accéder à loreillette gauche à partir de loreillette droite.
