PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a height-variable arm type supporting apparatus which makes positioning of a supported member stable and enables the arm body to be operated speedily and easily.SOLUTION: This supporting apparatus is composed of a first supporting part 2, a second supporting part 7 and a height-variable bridge retaining arm 9 for the respirator 3. The second supporting part 7 is attachable/detachable on the handrail of the bed, having a side surface fixing means 6 which is upside-down U-shaped form, and supported laterally movable. The height-variable bridge retaining arm 9 is rotatably supported in one side in the approximately horizontal direction by the first supporting part 2 side, and in the other side is rotatably supported in the approximately horizontal direction by the second supporting part 7 side. The height of this arm become automatically higher as the distance between the first supporting part 2 and the second supporting part 7 is close, and the height becomes automatically lower as the distance between the first supporting part 2 and the second supporting part 7 is kept away.
