A HEAT treatment is performed ON a base material so that its surface is formed thereon with a titanium oxide film, and then, the titanium oxide film is irradiated with ultraviolet rays and whereby a biocompatible implant is produced. At this time, preferable methods are that for forming a titanium oxide film by heating a base material made of titanium metal or a titanium alloy in an oxidizable gas, and that for forming a titanium oxide film according to a sol-gel method by coating a liquid containing a titanium compound ON the surface of the base material and followed by heating. Thereby and a method for producing a biocompatible implant having a titanium oxide film excellent in an ability of forming hydroxyapatite is provided.
