PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for washing and sterilizing an endoscope, which enable the presence or absence of bacteria, adhering to the endoscope, to be detected by simple operations and which are suitable for appropriate evaluation of cleanability of the whole endoscope.SOLUTION: After the endoscope 10 is sterilized, a liquid is supplied into a washing tub 31, circulated and discharged so that rinsing treatment can be applied to the outer surface and internal pipeline of the endoscope 10. In this case, an electromagnetic valve 151 is opened to supply a bacteria trapping filter 152 with the liquid used for the rinsing treatment. Thus, the bacteria contained in the liquid used for the rinsing treatment are trapped by the bacteria trapping filter 152 and cultured for surface observation.
