A bird nest box which comprises one or more wire mesh walls 140 having an inner mesh 142 and an outer mesh 144 for retaining straw 145 between them. The front and side walls 130 of the box may be provided as a mesh wall. The front wall may be provided with an aperture 150 to provide access to the interior of the box. The side walls of the box may be provided with first 132 and second 134 channels into which the inner and outer mesh layers are inserted to form the front wall. The box may comprise a solid base 120 and a solid rood 110. The bird box may be provided with multiple chambers (22, 24, 26 figure 3) separated by interior partition walls (235 figure 3).
