PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide silicon-eluting calcium carbonate wherein silicon can be eluted into an aqueous solution, and to provide its production method.
SOLUTION: The silicon-eluting calcium carbonate is composed of a vaterite phase comprising &ge0.1 wt.% silicon, and is obtained by blowing carbon dioxide into a suspension in which methanol, slaked lime and an organic silicon compound as a silicon source are mixed. Calcium carbonate is a useful biomaterial for bone restoration because it is absorbed into the living body or is decomposed as a bone is newly produced, and is exhausted to the outside of the living body to finally cause the restoration of a defective part by a self-bone, but, by incorporating silicon which quickly promotes the formation of a new bone therein, the further increase of a bone restoration function can be expected.
