The invention provides a method of preparing a biocide. The method includes forming a reaction mixture of a first compound and a second compound. The first compound is a quaternary ammonium salt providing a desired cation and in the form of a quaternary ammonium cation. The second compound is at least one naturally occurring organic acid and provides a desired anion. The second compound is contained in citrus extract obtained from citrus fruit. The method includes causing or allowing the first compound and the second compound to react chemically by ion exchange in the reaction mixture, thereby obtaining a biocide which contains, as a biocidal compound, a compound of the desired cation and the desired anion.Linvention concerne un procédé de préparation dun biocide. Le procédé comprend la formation dun mélange réactionnel dun premier composé et dun deuxième composé. Le premier composé est un sel dammonium quaternaire fournissant un cation souhaité et sous la forme dun cation dammonium quaternaire. Le deuxième composé est au moins un acide organique dorigine naturelle et fournit un anion souhaité. Le deuxième composé est présent dans un extrait dagrume obtenu à partir dun agrume. Le procédé consiste à provoquer ou permettre la réaction chimique du premier composé et du deuxième composé par échange dions dans le mélange réactionnel, ce qui permet dobtenir un biocide qui contient, en tant que composé biocide, un composé constitué du cation souhaité et de lanion souhaité.
