A medical imaging process using an imaging system is provided. The process includes: acquiring a first plurality of 2D projection images of the object via x-ray emission along a plurality of orientations selected with respect to the objects craniocaudal direction, one of the orientations being the objects craniocaudal direction obtaining a reconstructed 3D volume of the object along the craniocaudal direction from the first plurality of 2D projection images acquired obtaining a reconstructed 2D craniocaudal image acquiring a second plurality of 2D projection images of the object via x-ray emission along a plurality of orientations selected with respect to the objects mediolateral-oblique direction, one of the orientations being the objects mediolateral-oblique direction obtaining a reconstructed 3D volume of the object along the mediolateral-oblique direction from the second plurality of 2D projection images acquired and obtaining a reconstructed 2D mediolateral-oblique image.
