A portable device 12 for removing water-soluble disinfectant from air wherein the device comprises a water reservoir 128 and means for drawing air (e.g. a fan) 132 into contact with water from the water reservoir. The device is configured to remove water-soluble disinfectant from at least 0.5m3 of air per minute. In one embodiment, the device comprises a base 112 for location on a support surface and an outlet (116, fig. 1) for removal of liquid from the liquid reservoir following use. Preferably the device comprises a purification chamber 130, at least one water retention formation for retaining water (e.g. a pall ring) 142 within the purification chamber, and a pump 134. Also claimed is a method of disinfecting a space by distributing a water-soluble disinfectant throughout the space, and drawing air from the space into contact with water from the water reservoir.
