PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a biphenyl sulfide compound exerting high activity against various harmful insects and/or mites in agricultural and horticultural fields, particularly excellent miticidal activity against Panonychus citri which is a weighty pest to citrus fruits, and an intermediate for producing the same.SOLUTION: There are provided the phenyl sulfide compound represented by general formula [II] (wherein, X5 is -B(OH)2, a halogen atom, or the like).
