PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new hyaluronic acid production promoter which can be used for the purpose of moisturizing the skin and keeping it youthful and healthy. SOLUTION: A hyaluronic acid production promoter containing a bamboo trunk epidermis extract as an active ingredient. Bamboo trunk epidermis extract can be prepared by extracting with a lower alcohol having 1 to 5 carbon atoms as an extraction solvent and distilling off the solvent by concentration under reduced pressure. Bamboo trunk epidermis extract has the effect of promoting the production of hyaluronic acid, which is an essential element for retaining water in the skin, and the effect of promoting the production of collagen, which can prevent and improve wrinkles and sagging of the skin. A hyaluronic acid production promoter containing a bamboo trunk epidermis extract can be used as a moisturizing agent.
