PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel melanogenesis inhibitor capable of safely suppressing blackening caused by ultraviolet rays or the like and to provide a whitening agent containing the melanogenesis inhibitor which has an excellent whitening effect and high safety.SOLUTION: There is provided a melanogenesis inhibitor containing one or two or more selected from vetiver oil, cabreuva oil and cedarwood oil.
