High silicone content hydrocarbon-swollen gels are prepared without the use of Si-bonded polyoxyalkylene surfactant groups, without Si-bonded long chain alkyl groups, and without the need for a volatile silicone swelling agent, by hydrosilylatively crosslinking a silicone resin having on average more than two aliphatically unsaturated groups and a non-resinous linear or branched organopolysiloxane having more than two non-terminal Si-H groups, in the presence of a ? C5 hydrocarbon solvent.
