PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article with excellent sense of wearing, sufficiently exhibiting an advantage of the hourglass shape.
SOLUTION: The absorbent article 10 incldues the hourglass shape with a constriction at the central area in the longitudinal direction. An absorber 14 includes a high-absorbent polymer 22 held between liquid permeable sheets 21a and 21b whose dimensions are not substantially changed in contact with water. In the absorber 14, the liquid-permeable sheets 21a and 21b directly abut to each other and are joined to each other on both side edges in the lateral direction. The absorber 14 includes at least either a stripe-shaped high basis-weight area 23 in which the basis weight of the high-absorbent polymer 22 is relatively high or a stripe-shaped low basis-weight area 24 in which the basis weight is relatively low. When the absorber 14 swells absorbing liquid, the increase in the thickness at the central area in the lateral direction is larger than the increase in the thickness at side areas in the lateral direction.
