A method for treating human or animal skin, hands, feet, hair or nails to eliminate or reduce the number of microorganisms thereon by topical application of an aqueous formulation comprising antimicrobial organosilane quaternary ammonium compounds and benzalkonium chloride of the quaternary group, which provides antimicrobial and antiseptic activity. The method prevents reinfection for at least 12, preferably 24 and most preferably at least 60 hours. The formulation may further comprise methyl anthranilate, which performs the dual functions of fragrance (grape fragrance) and biocidal agent. The formulation may further comprise other compatible inert but desirable ingredients such as moisturizers, color and fragrance.La présente invention concerne un procédé de traitement visant à éliminer ou à réduire le nombre de microorganismes présents sur la peau, les mains, les pieds, les cheveux ou les ongles d'êtres humains ou d'animaux, par application topique d'une formulation aqueuse comprenant des composés ammonium quaternaires d'organosilane antimicrobiens et du chlorure de benzalkonium de groupe quaternaire, ladite formulation étant dotée d'une activité antimicrobienne et antiseptique. Le procédé évite les réinfections pendant au moins 12 h, de préférence 24 h et idéalement au moins 60 h. La formulation peut également contenir de l'anthranilate de méthyle, qui remplit la double fonction d'agent parfumant (odeur de raisin) et biocide. La formulation peut aussi contenir d'autres ingrédients inertes mais souhaitables tels que des agents hydratants, colorants et des parfums.
