The compounds and compositions relate to ribonucleic acids that encode telomerase reverse transcriptase and are useful for the extension of telomeres in cells that require such treatment. Such cells include, for example, cells that contain shortened telomeres and cells that can benefit from telomere elongation, such as cells that are subject to or at risk of suffering from an age-related disease or other disease. .
