A heat shielding material which is excellent in the reflection of infrared light which causes a temperature rise and visible light transmission. The heat shielding material comprises high-aspect ratio plate-like crystal magnesium hydroxide having a crystal width of not less than 1 µm and a crystal thickness of not more than 0.2 µm as an effective component.본 발명의 목적은 온도 상승의 원인인 적외선의 반사가 우수하고, 가시 광선에 대해서는 투과성이 우수한 차열재를 제공하는 것에 있다. 본 발명은 결정의 가로 폭이 1 ㎛ 이상이고, 또한 결정의 두께가 0.2 ㎛ 이하인 고에스펙트비 판상 결정 수산화마그네슘을 유효 성분으로 하는 차열재이다.
