in the physiological state of the organism, there is a balance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ero? s) and their neutralization by antioxidant systems. when this balance is lost a condition known as redox imbalance is generated. this condition is linked to the pathogenesis of several neurodegenerative diseases, such as alzheimer's disease (da). therefore, organisms have developed defenses against the toxic properties of oxygen. a first line of defense is provided by a system of antioxidant enzymes and non-enzymatic antioxidant substances. there are also exogenous antioxidants, which can be natural or synthetic compounds. isobenzofuran-1 (3h) -ones are part of a class of chemical compounds of a heterocyclic nature with antioxidant activity. therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the protective activity of synthetic isobenzofuran-1 (3h) -ones in primary cultures of hippocampal neurons submitted to oxidative stress. the results obtained demonstrated a good performance of isobenzofuran-1 (3h) -ones as antioxidants and suggests that the compounds may represent an additional component in the treatment for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, which are driven by the increase in the production of ero's.no estado fisiológico do organismo, existe um equilíbrio entre a produção de espécies reativas de oxigênio (ero?s) e a sua neutralização pelos sistemas antioxidantes. quando esse equilíbrio é perdido é gerada uma condição conhecida como desequilíbrio redox. essa condição está ligada à patogênese de várias doenças neurodegenerativas, tais como a doença de alzheimer (da). por isso, os organismos desenvolveram defesas contra as propriedades tóxicas do oxigênio. uma primeira linha de defesa é proporcionada por um sistema de enzimas antioxidantes e substâncias antioxidantes não enzimáticas. existem também os antioxidantes exógenos, que podem ser compostos naturais ou sintéticos. as isobenzofuran-1(3h)-onas fazem parte de uma classe de compostos químicos
