A heat capacitor for a capillary aerosol generator comprises a phase change material(40) that changes phases at a temperature approximately equal to a temperaturesufficient to volatilize liquid material in a capillary passage (10) of the capillaryaerosol generator. The phase change material stores heat, which can be used togenerate aerosol either continuously or intermittently over a given time. Theuse of stored heat in the phase change material to generate aerosol over time enablesoperation of the capillary aerosol generator remote from a large energy source.A capillary aerosol generator and a method for generating aerosol are also disclosed.
