PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel system for collecting a tissue sample during medical and surgical operations such as colonoscopy. A cassette 2600 for use with a medical waste collection system includes housings 2602 and 2612. The housing is shaped to be removably attached to a receptacle integral with the housing. The sleeve 2640 is attached to the cassette so as to be located in front of the housing. A void is formed in the sleeve. A collection fitting 2664 for the suction line is attached to the sleeve. The screen 2741 is adapted to be detachably mounted in the sleeve cavity. The screen is adapted to fit in the sleeve cavity when it is desired to capture tissue that may have been entrained in the fluid flow from the suction line.
