A surgical system comprises an ultrasonic surgical instrument and a conduit.The conduit maybe coupled with a vacuum source and/or a fluid source. The instrumentcomprises an ultrasonictransducer, a waveguide, and an end effector. The waveguide extends fullythrough thetransducer, such that a distal end of the waveguide is distal to the distalend of the transducer andsuch that a proximal end of the waveguide is proximal to the proximal end ofthe transducer.The waveguide is operable to transmit ultrasonic vibrations from thetransducer to the endeffector. The waveguide defines a lumen in fluid communication with theconduit. The lumen isalso in fluid communication with the end effector. The end effector may thusbe used to deliverone or more of ultrasonic energy, suction, and/or fluid to a surgical site, inany suitable sequenceor simultaneously.
