According to the present invention there has been a demand for a novel platinum (IV)complex which has sufficient levels of solubility in water stability an anti tumor activity and the like that are properties required for medicines and which can be used clinically and therefore a platinum (IV)complex is provided which is represented by general formula (I) wherein each of X1 and X2 represents a halogen atom or X1 and X2 together form a dicarboxylate group selected from the group consisting of an oxalate group a malonate group a succinate group or an o phthalate group and Y represents a halogen atom .
