The present invention relates to the prevention of neural tube defects. In particular, the invention provides thymidine or dTMP for use in a method of preventing or prophylactically treating a neural tube defect. The method may comprise administering the thymidine or dTMP to a female mammal that is pregnant or that may become pregnant.
