A surgical sealant which is composed of (1) a first agent that contains a gelatin derivative to which a hydrophobic group is bonded and (2) a second agent that contains a crosslinking agent for the gelatin derivative. In this connection, the first agent is characterized in that: (a) the gelatin derivative has a weight average molecular weight of 10,000-50,000； (b) the hydrophobic group is an alkyl group having 6-18 carbon atoms； (c) the imino group/amino group ratio (molar ratio) in the gelatin derivative is from 1/99 to 30/70； and (d) the gelatin derivative has a structure represented by GltnNH-CHR1R2 wherein Gltn represents a gelatin residue, R1 represents a hydrophobic group, and R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrophobic group.La présente invention concerne un agent d'étanchéité chirurgical qui se compose : (1) d'un premier agent qui contient un dérivé de gélatine auquel est lié un groupe hydrophobe et (2) d'un second agent qui contient un agent de réticulation pour le dérivé de gélatine. Ainsi, le premier agent est caractérisé en ce que : (a) le dérivé de gélatine a un poids moléculaire moyen en poids de 10 000 à 50 000 ； (b) le groupe hydrophobe est un groupe alkyle ayant 6 à 18 atomes de carbone ； (c) le rapport groupe imino/groupe amino (rapport molaire) dans le dérivé de gélatine est de 1/99 à 30/70 ； et (d) le dérivé de gélatine a une structure représentée par GltnNH-CHR1R2 dans laquelle Gltn représente un résidu de gélatine, R1 représente un groupe hydrophobe, et R2 représente un atome d'hydrogène ou un groupe hydrophobe.（１）疎水性基が結合されてなるゼラチン誘導体を含む第１剤であって、ゼラチン誘導体は （ａ）重量平均分子量が１０,０００～５０,０００であり、 （ｂ）疎水性基が炭素数６～１８のアルキル基であり、 （ｃ）ゼラチン誘導体中のイミノ基／アミノ基（モル比）が１／９９～３０／７０であり、且つ （ｄ）下式で表される構造を有し、 ＧｌｔｎＮＨ－ＣＨＲ１Ｒ２ 上式においてＧｌｔｎはゼラチン残基であり、Ｒ１は疎水性基であり、Ｒ２は水素原子または疎水性基である 第１剤、及び （２）ゼラチン誘導体の架橋剤を含む第２剤 からなる外科用シーラント。
