The invention relates to a skin protectant, particularly against hydrophobic(lipophilic) and hydrophilic (lipophobic) harmful substances, obtainable bymeansof an amount of at least one barrier-forming component, particularly againsthydrophobic (lipophilic) harmful substances, wherein the nephelometricturbidityunit of the barrier-forming component is determined by means of turbidimetryandat least one barrier-forming component, a 1% solution in water thereof havinganephelometric turbidity unit of greater than 40 (NTU), is used to produce theprotectant and a method for producing skin protectants, particularly againsthydrophobic (lipophilic) and hydrophilic (lipophobic) harmful substances,whereinthe barrier-forming component is any one of gum arabic, carob seed flour,tragacanth, karaya, guar gum, pectin, gellan gum, carrageenan, agar,alginates,Chondrus crispus (carrageenan), biosaccharide gum-4 and a mixture of two ormore of these polymers.
