Systems and methods make use of a viewoptimizing assembly having a deflector assembly with criticalphysical, pneumatic, and optical characteristics thatmake possible intra-operative defogging, surgical debrisdeflection, and cleaning of a laparoscope lens during minimallyinvasive surgery, while also maintaining visualizationof the surgical site. The view optimizing assembly canincorporate a quick exchange feature, which makes possiblea surgical method for maintaining clear visualizationthat includes the ability to make a quick exchange of laparoscopeshaving different operating characteristics (e.g.,laparoscopes with different tip angles, lengths, or diameters)entirely on the sterile operating field and without interferencewith the preexisting surgical set-up on the sterileoperating field. The view optimizing assembly integrateswith the existing suite of minimally invasive instrumentation.It does not interfere with the surgical set-up, and it requiresminimal change in the process or practice of a surgicaloperating room (OR) team.
