As fibras ópticas transportam a luz emitida por aparelhos fotoativadores odontológicos (onde o adaptador é encaixado em sua extremidade que recebe luz) e a dissipa em 360 graus na região do adaptador que pode encaixar dentro de um canal dental previamente tratado (porção emissora de luz). O adaptador pode transportar a luz do aparelho fotoativador para regiões muito finas e/ou estreitas, regiões em que a fotopolimerizaçãp não alcançaria, como por exemplo, o canal radicular de um dente.
