The present invention relates to a wheel drive system and, more particularly, to a wheel drive system that is either powered by an in- wheel motor-generator (2) or generating energy through the same motor-generator (2). The wheel drive system comprises a wheel rim (1) of a wheel, a motor generator (2) mounted within the wheel, a wheel drive shaft (3) rigidly connected either to the wheel rim (1), or to a brake drum (4), or to a disc brake and adapted to be driven or to drive the wheel, a power drive shaft (5) adapted to be driven or to drive the motor-generator (2), a reduction unit (6), a dual clutch (7) and an over-running clutch (20).
