To provide a novel hydrogelator which can be produced by a simple method and contains a monourea compound having a sugar structure. This hydrogelator comprises a compound represented by formula (1) below (in the formula, Sg represents a sugar group, A represents a divalent linking group, and R represents a linear or branched alkyl group having a carbon atom number of 1-15, a cyclic alkyl group having a carbon atom number of 3-15, a linear or branched alkenyl group having a carbon atom number of 2-15, or an aryl group which has a carbon atom number of 6-18, and which is unsubstituted or substituted with at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group having a carbon atom number of 1-10, an alkoxy group having a carbon atom number of 1-10, an aryloxy group having a carbon atom number of 6-18, a halogen atom, a nitro group, a phenyl group, an alkylcarbonyl group having a carbon atom number of 2-10, and an aralkyl group having a carbon atom number of 7-18).本發明之課題為提供能夠以簡便之手法製作,且含有具有糖結構之單脲化合物的新穎水凝膠化劑。 其解決手段為由下述式[1]表示之化合物所構成的水凝膠化劑; (式中, Sg表示糖基, A表示2價連結基, R表示碳原子數1至15之直鏈狀或分支鏈狀之烷基、碳原子數3至15之環狀之烷基、碳原子數2至15之直鏈狀或分支鏈狀之烯基,或未取代或經選自由碳原子數1至10之烷基、碳原子數1至10之烷氧基、碳原子數6至18之芳氧基、鹵素原子、硝基、苯基、碳原子數2至10之烷基羰基及碳原子數7至18之芳烷基所成之群的至少1個取代基取代之碳原子數6至18之芳基)。
