A method of treating a skin lesion characterized by the presence of hyperproliferative keratinocytes in an individual, comprising: providing an individual having a skin region that is characterized by the presence of hyperproliferative keratinocytes； contacting said skin region with a therapeutically effective amount of activated protein C (APS)； as a result carry out the treatment of skin lesions in the specified individual. 2. A method according to claim 1, characterized in that said therapeutically effective amount of APS reduces inflammation in said area of the skin. A method according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said therapeutically effective amount of APS reduces apoptosis in said area of the skin. A method according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said therapeutically effective amount of APS does not inhibit the growth of normal keratinocytes or causes proliferation of normal keratinocytes. A method according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said therapeutically effective amount of APS is from 1 μg to 5 mg of APS in the skin area. A method according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the APS for making contact with the indicated area of the skin is provided in the form of a gel, cream, ointment, spray, lotion or similar composition adapted to make contact with the skin surface. A method according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the APS for contacting said skin area is in the form of a composition adapted for subcutaneous injection.
