To provide a magnetic resonance system for obtaining a tomographic plane at an optional region of a subject by using a magnetic resonance phenomenon and in particular to provide a means for solving a problem arising when mask processing is performed by an absolute value image by using data obtained from an RF reception coil having a plurality of coil elements.

SOLUTION: The MRI apparatus has an MAC (multiple array) coil 10 being a receiving coil of a perpendicular magnetic field type and a solenoid coil 11. A threshold to be used for mask processing is calculated only according to data obtained from the solenoid coil 11 (flows F3and F4) and is used as a threshold in the mask processing (flows F2and F5) with respect to an original absolute value image obtained from both coils 10 and 11 (flows F5and F6). Thus and an appropriate threshold is obtained and influences of signal distributions unnecessary for the processing are reduced.
