Disclosed is an apparatus and method for immobilizing the shoulder of a user. The apparatus comprises an elbow cap, a shoulder cap, a first tension member extending between the elbow cap and the shoulder cap and a second tension member extending from the wrist. The method comprises connecting the first tension member between the elbow cap located on an elbow corresponding to the shoulder to be immobilized to the shoulder cap located on an opposed shoulder behind the back of the user and support and maintain the wrist proximate to the users torso with the second tension member. The method further comprises tightening the first tension member so as to draw the elbow behind a frontal plane of the users torso proximate to the users torso.
